Day 7: Success uncovered

The fact is – there is no secret to success. It is pretty simple honestly.

When you do what you need to do to meet your own goals, it is called success. When you are disciplined to do the things you needed to do to be successful, others think you are talented. Mystery solved. Without discipline talent will not show up.

John Maxwell writes, “If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them, then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.” Sounds simple, right? The trap I see most people fall into is doing the things they want to do to get the results they need to get.

Grant Cardone teaches that success isn’t scarce. It is not a commodity It is not a resource. It is created by the individual person. It is made not acquired.

With all of that said, do you have the discipline to do the things you need to do? If we uncover it all – success, talent, fortune, fame – the underlying principle would remain. You must have discipline.

I look at where I am in the year according to the goals I set for myself. As I plan for the next year I see a more simplistic approach to reach a higher level of success. Cut away the fat from the plan and focus on the bare bones. What does it take to do my job? That is where I will focus and be disciplined. Once I do the things I need to do, then I can think about the things I want to do.

Are you making your plan too complicated? What do you need to do? Or as Gary Keller would say, “What’s the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or uneccessary?”

Now go to that thing today and don’t stop until it is done!
